Tarangire National Park – Tanzania
Although in Tanzania, Nairobi is the closest and cheapest airport to fly into and then about an 8 hour drive over potholed roads will take you to the national park – crossing the famous Masai Mara plains where traditional herdsmen drive their livestock to pasture.
A good base to aim for is Arusha where the Ilburu safari lodge offers alongside its hotel a choice of camping from as little as $10 a night.
